Change your Roblox password: the current password, account checks and a safe result
Use the settings route when you know the current password. Prepare your recovery access, choose the correct profile and verify a new login without confusing a saved session with success.
Decide between changing and recovering a password #
Changing a known password and recovering a forgotten one start from different places. The settings route described here expects you to be signed into your own account and to know its current password. Being able to open a game does not prove you remember that password: a saved session or another login method may be providing access. Before opening the change form, establish which case applies. If you cannot supply the current password, use the separate official recovery route instead of guessing repeatedly.
Write a private starting note with the intended Roblox username and your available recovery method, but never the password itself. For example, “Correct profile open, current password known, verified email accessible” describes readiness. “App open, password unknown” describes a different task. These are teaching examples, not checks performed on your account. A family member should operate their own account; do not ask them to send credentials to a chat or type them into this website so someone else can complete the procedure.
Prepare before replacing the credential #
Check the username in the open profile, particularly on a shared device with several accounts. A familiar avatar or Display Name is not a substitute for identifying the intended account. Check that you can reach the recovery email or other existing recovery options without signing out unnecessarily. This preparation matters because changing a credential and discovering that a recovery contact is inaccessible are separate problems. Resolve the uncertainty first rather than making several account changes at once and losing track of which one caused the difficulty.
Choose a new password that you do not use on another website, as Roblox recommends. Keep it in a secure place under your control and do not include it in screenshots, support requests or example notes. We deliberately provide no sample password for you to copy: a published example is not a private credential. If you use a password manager, make sure you can identify the entry for the intended account. Updating an unrelated saved entry does not change Roblox's actual account settings.
Find the official change form #
Open Roblox itself and go to account Settings. The official help describes the gear menu in a browser and More in mobile apps. Choose Account Info and the password-change control, which the help illustrates with an edit icon. Menu labels can be translated or arranged differently, so confirm the section's purpose rather than searching every screen for a particular drawing. A support guide, a game creator's page and a message from another player are not places to submit the current password.
The form asks for the current Roblox password and the new password twice. Read the field labels before entering anything. In a fictional checklist the three fields are “current,” “new,” and “confirm new”; they do not mean three different new passwords. Enter the intended new value consistently and review any validation message on the actual page. A rejected form has not established a successful change. Record the category of the message without copying the secret contents of the fields into your notes.
Submit one deliberate change and inspect the response #
Complete the change only on the official interface for the account you identified. After submitting, read the result instead of immediately repeating the same operation or closing the application. Distinguish an error beside a field, a request for an additional account check and a completed settings action. Our diagrams illustrate that decision sequence; they are not screenshots of a real account or proof that a password has already changed. This website does not enter, store or replace your credential for you.
If the current password is rejected, stop using the settings form as a guessing tool. Confirm that you selected the correct account and switch to official recovery when the password is no longer known. If a new-password confirmation does not match, correct that mismatch on the form rather than changing recovery contacts as an unrelated repair. If a security challenge appears, follow Roblox's own available method. Never approve an unexpected request merely because someone claims it will help complete the password change.
Verify a new sign-in separately #
A game remaining open after the change is not a fresh authentication test. When you are ready and have access to your recovery methods, use a separate official sign-in attempt on a device you control. Make sure you are actually testing the password route: signing in with a passkey or an existing session would not demonstrate that the new password was accepted. Check the username on the receiving device too. A successful login to another account is not the result you intended to verify.
The table below separates settings success, new-password login and review of account sessions. Record each result independently. An example is “Settings accepted the change; a new password login opened the expected account.” If the second step fails, keep the precise message and use the matching help instead of assuming that repeated changes will resolve it. Do not delete the account, remove recovery contacts or log out every device merely to manufacture a test. Choose a controlled check that preserves your ability to recover access.
Follow up according to the reason for the change #
For a routine password replacement, also review the official recommendations on verified email and two-step verification. Those are separate security settings, not evidence that this password change succeeded. If suspicious access prompted the change, continue with the session-management and hacked-account guides linked below. Do not assume that replacing one credential proves every other session, device and recovery option is safe. Likewise, an approximate session location alone is not enough to identify an attacker or explain every account event.
For support, describe the account username, device type, approximate time and stage that failed without supplying either password. A useful report says “The settings form accepted my change, but a new password login reports a problem,” rather than attaching filled password fields. Protect active recovery links and verification codes as well. This article explains an official route and original checking examples; it does not perform credential changes, guarantee recovery or replace the additional steps needed when an account or device may already be compromised.
| Situation | Action | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Current password known? | Yes: account settings | No: recovery route |
| Own profile and recovery | Check Roblox username | Preserve recovery access |
| Account Info: change password | Current, new, confirm | Read the result |
| Settings accepted change | Separate from a fresh login | Existing session is not a test |
| New password sign-in | Not passkey or saved session | Check the intended username |
| Suspicious activity | Review sessions and recovery | No automatic safety claim |
