Roblox won't launch on PC: find the failing step
Play does nothing, installation repeats, or Roblox closes immediately? Check the website, browser handoff, application window and game connection separately.
Find the last step that actually worked #
If Roblox is broken or won't launch, start with what you can see after selecting Play. The website might fail to open, the browser might not hand the request to the application, the Roblox window might open and disappear, or an open application might fail to join a game. Those observations lead to different checks. This route covers Roblox Player on a Windows PC; Studio and mobile application problems need their own instructions.
Write the sequence in plain language: game page opens, I select Play, a browser prompt appears, then no application window appears. Keep the exact message, code, time and game link. If there is no message, record that too. Do not describe a missing window as a crash unless you actually saw the application open and close. Knowing the last successful step makes the next attempt more informative than repeating an unspecified fix.
Check the website and Roblox Status #
Open the official Roblox website and the original game in your usual browser. If the page fails to load, identify what is missing: the whole website, game details or the launch button. Check Roblox Status separately for a relevant incident and record its time and component. A working status page does not prove that your application works; no listed incident does not rule out a local problem. Treat this as context for the observed failure.
If the website opens, move on to the handoff. If the browser stage still fails, compare the same address in another current supported browser, such as Edge, Chrome or Firefox. Keep the computer and connection unchanged. A successful comparison reveals a difference between attempts, rather than proving that a particular extension is broken. Avoid starting by clearing every browser setting. Removing cookies can end a working login, so first make sure you can sign in again.
Read the browser prompt after selecting Play #
Select Play once on the game page and read the window that appears. Roblox's installation instructions say the browser may ask you to choose a program: select Roblox and confirm opening it when the request comes from the official website. Button wording varies with browser and language. If you dismissed the prompt, make one fresh attempt and observe the result. Repeated clicking can produce multiple windows and make it harder to identify which attempt you are checking.
If the website asks you to install again, record that separately from a connection error. Note whether your copy came from the website or an official store. This check follows the website launch route; installing several variants at once mixes the results. If opening the application normally works while launching from the website fails, keep that distinction in your notes. It directs the next question towards the handoff, without identifying a cause or a damaged file by itself.
The window opens and closes: capture the sequence #
When a Roblox window does appear, record when it disappears: before loading, during loading or after entering the world. Save any complete error code. For 403, 268, 280, 277 or 279, follow the related guide below after confirming your actual number. Repeated installation prompts and an application that closes after opening are different symptoms. The example table separates them without assuming that the entire computer is broken or that every failure has the same cause.
Close Roblox normally, save work in other programs and restart the PC. Roblox recommends restarting before reinstalling. After the restart, repeat the original attempt with the same game and connection, leaving other settings unchanged for now. Add a new result even when nothing changes. If the application now stays open but cannot load the game, you have reached a different stage. That progress is useful evidence, but it is not yet a complete successful launch.
| Observation | Next question |
|---|---|
| Website does not open | Does another browser show the same issue? |
| Play asks to install again | Which installation route did you use? |
| Window appears and closes | At what point, and with what message? |
| Window works; world does not load | Does it affect one game or several? |
Compare requirements and recent changes #
The current Roblox PC requirements list 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11. Compare your operating system and system type with the official requirements, particularly on an older computer. An installed DirectX version number does not replace checking the required graphics feature level. If you are unsure about hardware, record the device model and consult its official help rather than downloading an unknown driver bundle from a comment. Requirements for Studio and other devices are separate.
Build a short timeline: the last working launch, the first failure and changes between them. A program or security update around that time provides a question to investigate, rather than a proven cause. If security software explicitly reports a Roblox block, save the event and ask its vendor about the correct setting. For a school or work PC managed by an organization, ask the administrator. This comparison does not require disabling all protection or bypassing that organization's restrictions.
The application opens but the game does not load #
Once the application window works, retry the original game and compare it with another available game. Keep the account, computer and network the same. Record both links and whether loading completed, a code appeared or the window closed. A failure in only one project gives its creator a specific link and failure point to investigate. Problems across several projects call for further application and connection checks; do not label the account banned without a relevant notice.
If another permitted connection is available, repeat the same test through it. On your own network, comparing Wi-Fi with a cable can be useful; check mobile data costs before using a mobile connection. Change only the connection and record the outcome. A difference narrows the investigation without proving that the router is defective. If the actual message shows 277 or 279, continue with the connection guide. Do not reset someone else's network equipment for this experiment.
Reinstall after the simpler checks #
Before reinstalling, make sure you know your username and can use your usual sign-in method. Do not remove your only working session while account recovery is unresolved. Close Roblox, finish other tasks and follow the official reinstall instructions. Roblox says uninstalling first is usually unnecessary; if normal reinstallation does not help, its instructions provide a separate uninstall and reinstall route. Record which route you actually used so that the next comparison remains understandable.
Get Player from the official source for your chosen route. Studio is a separate editor, and deleting its projects is not part of this check. Do not download a supposed Roblox fixer or copy bulk folder-deletion commands. If uninstalling is needed, follow the official system procedure and preserve local projects beforehand. After installing, repeat the original game test. Record whether the browser prompt appeared, the application opened and the game world loaded, rather than only saying the installation finished.
Decide whether it worked or prepare a useful report #
Should you reinstall again when Roblox won't open after installation? First compare the stages: installation finished, browser handoff happened, application opened, world loaded. Repeating installation without another observation adds little. Does a working website mean everything is fixed? It confirms only that stage. A useful result is entering the original game and controlling the character at the point that previously failed. One successful attempt does not guarantee the problem will never return in different conditions.
If Roblox still won't start, prepare your username, PC model, operating system version, exact message, game link and reproduction steps for official support. An invented example: after Play, the browser asks to open Roblox; I confirm, the window appears and closes before loading; restarting the PC did not change it. Replace that example with your own facts, time and recent changes. Passwords, cookies and sign-in codes are unnecessary in this report. Primary sources and code-specific guides follow below.
