Roblox — Windows: identify the new Microsoft Store app and keep the right account
Distinguish the two Store versions, prepare your Roblox login, inspect the Microsoft/Xbox account and verify your profile before removing the older application.
Establish which installation you are replacing #
This guide concerns the change from the older Microsoft Store application to the newer Store version. It is not a requirement to replace every Roblox installation from every source, and it does not describe a console update. Start by recording where your installed app came from and what prompted the change. An old desktop shortcut, a Store product listing and a browser's request to launch Roblox are different observations. Do not conclude that an application is current solely because an icon named Roblox remains on the desktop.
The official Roblox article identifies the new Store product as Roblox - Windows, while the old Store listing is called Roblox. On the computer, both applications may be called Roblox; the article distinguishes a blue icon for the new app from a light gray icon for the old one. Use the listing and installation context together, rather than relying on an icon copied into a message. A fictional starting note is “Old Store app installed; new Store listing not installed yet,” not “My account has been moved.”
Prepare the existing Roblox account #
Before installation, identify the Roblox username that owns your progress, friends, Robux and inventory. The official migration help explains that these remain tied to the Roblox account and directs users to sign back in with their usual credentials. Creating another account is not the same as accessing the original one. If the username or password is forgotten, use the separate recovery help first. An application reinstall does not itself establish which account owns a purchase or recover a password that you no longer know.
On a shared computer, write a private checklist of the intended Roblox profile and the Microsoft account used for the Store. Do not include passwords or verification codes. A familiar Display Name or avatar can make a wrong profile look convincing, so use the actual username when comparing results. If you already have accessible recovery methods, check that you can use them before deliberately leaving an existing session. Do not delete account data or change several family profiles just to prepare an installation. The change should remain a clearly defined application task.
Install through the intended Microsoft Store route #
Open Microsoft Store and inspect the new Roblox - Windows product identified by the official help. Download and install the appropriate listing through that official route, following the Store's actual prompts. A website offering a similar name, archive or unofficial installer is not the same distribution channel. This guide does not promise that installation succeeds on every Windows setup or that every failure is caused by the old app. Record whether the Store cannot download, installation fails or the installed app fails to open; each is a separate stage.
After installation, launch the newly installed application intentionally. If several shortcuts exist, compare the version indicators described above and the Store listing rather than repeatedly opening whichever icon is nearest. A useful teaching record is “Store installation completed; launched the new entry; reached sign-in.” That result is narrower than “Everything works,” but it tells you what to check next. If the Store operation itself fails, capture the error text without exposing account details and use the matching official platform assistance. Do not disable protection or erase unrelated programs as a generic repair.
Understand the Microsoft and Xbox account step #
The Roblox migration article explains that Microsoft Store games use a Microsoft account with an Xbox profile and describes linking Roblox and Xbox accounts as a one-time step. That is why this flow can show an Xbox-related screen even when you are using a Windows computer rather than a console. Keep the two identities separate: a Microsoft/Xbox profile and a Roblox username do not have to be the same text. Review the actual profiles shown before approving an account connection that affects your own access.
For a family PC, establish who owns the currently selected Microsoft account and which Roblox account you intend to use. An unexpected profile is a reason to stop and check, not to enter a parent's password into a child's chat or repeatedly create replacement accounts. Our route diagram represents the relationship between services and is not a screenshot of a real linking prompt. Do not automatically import Xbox console error901 repair instructions into this Store migration: similar wording does not prove the same platform or cause. Record the exact step and message if linking stops.
Verify your profile before cleaning up #
Once the new app opens and you sign in, inspect the Roblox username and the account information you expected to see. The official source ties progress, Robux, friends and inventory to the account; a different profile is therefore not evidence that installing the new app deleted the original account. First compare identity and the relevant account page. For a game-specific progress issue, also distinguish Roblox login from that experience's state. Avoid purchasing the same item again merely because a screen initially looks unfamiliar after installation.
Use a short, observable test: new app launched, intended profile opened, a known account item or page checked, and one chosen experience reached where available. Record failures at the stage where they occur. The table separates installation, linking and account verification so that a successful download does not hide a later login problem. Do not claim measured performance improvements from this checklist; stability claims in the announcement are Roblox's description, not results from a benchmark on your machine. No installation or account linking has been performed by this article.
Remove the old app only after the new route works #
The official recommendation is to remove the old Store app after the new one is installed and you have successfully signed in. Confirm which application is old before using Windows' normal uninstall controls. The point is to reduce duplicate shortcuts and confusion, not to delete documents, account recovery contacts or saved projects. This guide does not instruct you to uninstall Roblox Studio. An application with a similar name can have a different purpose, so identify the selected entry carefully before any removal confirmation.
Keep the final result concise: which Store app you now launch, which Roblox username appears and whether the old app was removed only after verification. If something remains broken, describe the product name, device, approximate time, stopped stage and exact message to the appropriate support service. Exclude passwords, live codes and personal receipt details. Continue with our separate launch, recovery or connection guide according to the observed failure. These steps organize a migration and its checks; they do not guarantee every game, account or Windows environment will behave identically afterwards.
| Situation | Action | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Source: Microsoft Store | New: Roblox - Windows | Older listing: Roblox |
| Two apps named Roblox | Blue and light gray icons | Match the installation |
| Existing Roblox account | Prepare your sign-in | Do not create a replacement |
| Microsoft/Xbox profile | Separate Roblox username | Check before linking |
| New app opens | Check profile and result | Do not repurchase |
| Remove the old Store app | After successful sign-in | Do not remove Roblox Studio |
